The Town of Bucksport, in partnership with EMDC and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has developed a community-supported vision and plan for the redevelopment of the former paper mill property in Bucksport. The realistic vision includes anchor tenant Whole Oceans, an enhanced port, community hub, walkway, and other plans that generate economic growth in Bucksport and throughout the region.
This roadmap outlines how we developed a regional strategy that supports economic growth and stability, and created a workforce plan that supports retraining that is focused on growing industries.
The analysis focuses on the need for a “reboot” to identify industries poised to become the new economic drivers in this region, and identifies workforce characteristics and workforce development strategies to support those industries.
EMDC’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) identifies goals and objectives for the Eastern Maine region that guide economic growth and regional resiliency. EMDC is designated by the U.S. Economic Development Agency to update the plan every 5 years. The result is a living document that is data-rich, and thoughtfully created with diverse public and private stakeholder input.
