Start a new career as a certified nursing assistant (no cost training)
Posted on May 12, 2020 | NewsEAST MILLINOCKET — Eastern Maine Community College‘s Katahdin Higher Education Center is pleased to announce the offering of a no cost certified nursing assistant (CNA) program in a new online/hybrid format beginning on May 26. Nursing assistants are nationally and locally one of the most in demand jobs in the allied healthcare field. Classroom instruction will be offered via technology, learners must have access to a computer with a camera and mic and internet access. All clinicals will be held at partner sites in Millinocket.
A nursing assistant is an individual who provides basic care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This course consists of a combination of classes in theory, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Learners will be given the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to function safely in a clinical setting. Those who successfully complete the course and the State of Maine Board examination will receive a State of Maine Certification for the basic nursing assistant. Candidates interested in applying for enrollment includes an application and proof of immunization records. Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma GED or HiSet. This course is scheduled to run May 26 to Aug. 8, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Clinicals times TBA. This program is a total of 180 hours. 90 classroom, 20 lab and 70 hours clinical with Instructor Sharon Holway
Eastern Maine Community College is pleased to offer this program at no cost with grant funding from the Maine Quality Centers of the Maine Community College System. The grant covers the cost of the class, all materials, textbook and background check. This program is open on a first come, first served basis. Participation in the clinical aspect of the training is contingent on passing a background check and documentation of proper immunization. Anyone interested in this training may also qualify for other supportive services from Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC). The Katahdin Higher Education Center of EMCC and the University of Maine at Augusta is an off-campus center in the Katahdin region where people can take courses, pursue degrees and receive all the support they need to earn a degree close to home and on schedules that fit into their family and work lives. Courses are taught by faculty on-site, online or two-way videoconferencing.
