Maine’s battle against the opioid crisis has received some financial help.

The Eastern Maine Development Corp. has assisted in securing a National Health Emergency Dislocated Worker Grant for up to $6.28 million from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The grant will help with employment services for individuals affected by the state’s opioid crisis.

Lee Umphrey, EMDC’s president and CEO, said the funding will provide hope — as well as the skills needed for a productive life — to those recovering from opioid addiction.

“Helping them be successful, we do assessments and individual one-on-one, and just tailor their skills to what the jobs are,” Umphrey said.

Umphrey said with the immediate release of more than $2 million, they’re working to educate, train, support and provide employment opportunities to those in recovery.
