Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery

Linking the Rural Regions of Four Counties in Maine to Enhance Transportation Opportunities and Improve Quality of Life

This project, funded by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) through the 2010 TIGER II Planning Grant Program, will convene stakeholders to perform a needs assessment and feasibility study of the rural regions of four Maine counties (Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Waldo), and develop a cohesive plan to increase public transportation options that are affordable, efficient, and effective. Advisory Group members represent a wide variety of sectors, including government, business, education, healthcare, and social service providers.

This project is intended to transform the four-county region by providing affordable, effective modes of transportation to further connect residents of remote rural regions to urban hubs, providing access to employment at a livable wage, health care, affordable housing, and access to healthy food, personal appointments, and arts & entertainment.
